Emergency Care at Dento Smile

Experiencing a toothache or breaking a tooth can be frightening and painful. Dental injuries, while common, are unpredictable. Thankfully, our family dentists provide same-day emergency care to promptly alleviate your pain and address your dental needs.

Common Dental Emergencies

Broken or Lost Fillings —If you experience a broken or lost filling, it’s often due to gradual weakening or leakage of the old filling. To address this, we may need to place a new filling or a crown over the tooth. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth and schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience. In the meantime, you can use temporary filling material from the pharmacy to reduce sensitivity for a day or two.

Knocked-Out Teeth  If Teeth If you have a knocked-out tooth, find it and store it in a sealed container fully submerged in milk or contact solution. Alternatively, you can place it inside your cheek to keep it moist with saliva. Rinse off any visible debris gently, avoiding scrubbing the roots, as this can hinder reinsertion. It’s crucial to reach our office within the hour for the best chance of saving the tooth.

Chipped Teeth If you chip a tooth, follow similar instructions as for a knocked-out tooth. If necessary, take an over-the-counter pain reliever. For any bleeding, apply a clean compress and replace it as needed.

Loose Teeth —   If you have a loose tooth due to a traumatic injury, refrain from attempting to move or remove it, especially if it’s a permanent tooth. Contact our office immediately to schedule an emergency appointment. In many cases, we can stabilize the tooth by bracing it against a neighboring tooth, facilitating healing.

Abscesses and Toothaches  —Tooth pain can be due to active cavities, cracked teeth or infected nerves. If there is visible swelling in your gums or you’re unable to eat because the pressure hurts your tooth, we need to see you at your earliest convenience.
